A Long Road

Good morning today is December 4, 2024 and that according to WordPress is about eight years since my last blog. In looking at my media and oil paintings shared at that time none of you on my subscribers list are watching, on my FASO website, but I have in that time. Painted over 2000 original oil paintings.I’ve been spending time in research making my own oil paints with Earth Pigments and also water colors with my Earth Pigments and my output. The past couple of years has not been much output, as a result of all the research and learning. My most recent project I completed was my oil painting with Earth Pigments, making my own oil paints. My interpretation of Leonardo da Vinci’s, for his great work called Salvador Mundi. This particular oil painting had been not in view publicly for over 500 years and when it resurfaced in New York, New York, USA the curators had to remove a layer of some other artist oil paint over Leonardo’s paint, and once that was completed, the painting was auctioned at Christie’s in New York and now resides in the Louv in Dubai Middle East. The reason I wanted to do this particular work, and all the study over the years of Leonardo’s work, his subjects are always real, not imagined, and likewise when you look at his paintings, the eyes of all the subjects are tremendous. In the Renaissance area of time many of the Italian painters did a lot of work from the holy Bible, that was very popular theme and if you recall, Leonardo did the Last Supper which today remains ever popular. There are a couple of things about the painting, Leonardo’s painting I could not understand in this case why he chose to show Jesus in a blue robe? To me that is like when you hit your finger with a sledgehammer or you hear chalk screeching up across the board, it is really that bad. Also, and I am not sure on the restoration. If those who were responsible changed the nature of the original, I don’t know, but the eyes on Salvador Mundi there are really no eyes. That deviate from everything Leonardo ever did, and once again it’s like a thumb that has been smashed with a hammer. So in my endeavor using Earth Pigments made by Sage de France and marketed by Earth Pigments in Vermont USA, I started the journey couple of years ago and I just finished my Art Reception in 2 Roots Art and Wine Gallery in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. I felt there were two sources of light, not one and therefore, my light in my painting is different. I created beautiful eyes, where in the Leonardo’s original work no eyes, and I utilized a beautiful red color for the robe, which is Hebrew and Jewish the blue is not a Jewish color. At this point, I only have retouch varnish and about April 10 will be able to put the final varnish. The Hickory wood frame was built by my son, master carpenter Christopher James Springett, and I’m very grateful for the help. I’m not sure, but in my view the way, the work had been presented. If Leonardo did it in that form, it was really not a completed oil painting in my view and he was not done. So in my simplistic way in that interpretation completed the painting in the way that would be satisfying to the Jewish people. I call my painting of Salvador Mundi.” For Salvador “meaning for Jesus. Thanks…have a good day Jimmy Springett wildlife painter
