Muke Deer Buck-Miniature-2-2014-JES

Good morning, just have been working a few days on this miniature oil painting, on a 3″ x 3 3/4″ x 1/8″ Masonite hard board of a mule deer buck seen in September 2003.

In this miniature painting titled, ” Antlers In Velvet ” was a beautiful mule deer buck seen in Theodore Roosevelt National Park, South Unit, in September of 2003, standing in the blue green sage brush, looking directly at me. Painting this miniature in oils is harder than using watercolors because takes a day for the oil paint to dry and when painting in watercolors dries fast as I am painting so I can continue in one sitting until the painting is completed. A lot to learn and most importantly is the quality of your 000005 brush a 0003 brush is too big and the tip needs to be very narrow for the minute shapes in this small a painting.

I am going to list on ETSY this morning and the fee with the original miniature painting, the miniature easel, my Letter of Authenticity and a premium 5″ x 7″ card print with envelope is for $67.00 delivered to your door, “Free Shipping, via Priority Mail and you will receive in 2 days once payment is received. The painting sides are all painted and is lightly varnished to protect the paint finish, and makes for a wonderful gift. If you have questions please let me know. Thank you once again, for visiting my WordPress Shop and Blog, with hope,

Best wishes,

Called, ” Spring Scents ” Original 5″ x 7″ oil painting

Titled, ” Spring Scents ” Buffalo or Bison If You Prefer, Smile!!!

In today’s blog, my original miniature watercolor of a bull buffalo, is titled, ” Spring Scents ” and is a miniature 4″ x 6″ watercolor. This package is called Springett’s ” Special Bundle ” so let me explain what you receive when you order on ETSY.

You get the original miniature 4×6 watercolor painting, the wooden miniature easel, a 5×8 lined notebook, a premium 5×7 card print and premium envelope, a custom coffee mug with painting on your cup, and my signed and sealed Letter of Authenticity. Please note the original painting image and also the image of all the above items, for one price as is listed on ETSY. Thank you for your consideration of purchasing a Springett Original painting package called Springett’s “Special Bundle.”

The next painting that I am working on is a painting called, ” Sandhill Symmetry ” and  this is a 13″ x 40 ” original oil painting with 5 sandhill cranes flying across the sky in their early morning rising from their evening roost to leave Crex Meadows for the day to feed in local farm fields that the corn has been harvested and they are cleaning up the surplus left from picking, they are no dummies, smile! The first image is the step #1, the sketch with the Masonite hard board mounted in the aged wooden frame that once upon a time was a park bench, probably over 100 years old so a lot of character in this frame, left rustic to enhance the original oil painting. Step #2 is the first color layer for the sky, and while this probably does not look like much, there will be new color layers laid over this first layer once the first layer is dry. And I will build the layers until I have achieved the luminosity that I am looking for. You will not see on your color screen on your computer but you’ll see if you buy my original. I do not change the color of the original oil painting on my software to make look other than is, so I work with camera and software to match the actual color that I develop from my original painting. Others have asked about but no Photoshop enhancing, none at all. This painting will be made available on ETSY too, in the next week depending on how long I have to wait for the first layer to dry before painting the next color layer. I am not painting wet into wet oil paints dues to the mixing and want to develop the maximum luminosity and that can only happen when layering one dry layer at a time, wet over dry in thin layers, not fat  over lean in this case.

Have a great day and if you want to kibitz on my oil painting techniques send your query and I’ll get back and answer your questions promptly. For those of you who wonder my paints, I use Lukas berlin water base oils and Winsor and Newton’s Artisian water base. I do not prefer titanium white, too opaque, but use zinc white which is very transparent. If you are trying to develop great depth opaque paints stop that, transparency is necessary. If you have painted in watercolors then you know, and if you haven’t not a problem either.

Thank you for your consideration, Spring Images LLC has been in business since 2008 and we hope to grow the business by adding one happy customer at a time. None of my work subject or composition is ever repeated, and my color palette changes on each painting, so no I do not use just a few colors, every painting sold is unique and a one of a kind image, not to be repeated.  I do not use the dual color system with 2 blues, 2 reds and 2 yellows. The color palette is solely dependent on the image I am going to paint and that is how I decide what paint I am going to use. For me this is the challenge of original painting, each painting is totally new.

With hope,

It sure is wonderful to visit the Badlands of ND in Medora, ND and see the beautiful wild horses. This painting is called ” a mare and her stallion” and is painting in honor and my love of my daughter Julie, we rode horses a lot when she was growing up and since we have both moved on to new pursuits. She is a most kind and loving daughter, and is a loving blessing for all time. Thank you Julie and may God always bless and keep you.

Love dad,
